Official Vaultbreakers key art featuring two of the playable characters

Five Vaultbreakers are confirmed so far. Nymera and Bjornir are the two you can play in the demo today; Lumiri, Sparkwing and Thora appear in the current patch notes but are marked "not in the demo" - they are coming in later tests and at launch. Nobody has full numbers yet, but BetaDwarf's patch notes reveal a surprising amount about how each one plays.

The demo pair

Nymera - moth-themed energy fighter

Nymera mixes ranged pressure with burst mobility. Her ultimate, Emerald Barrage, fires a volley that can be upgraded with spread and extra projectiles, and Moth Dash keeps her repositioning instead of standing still.

Ability or perkWhat it does
Emerald BarrageUltimate volley; projectiles can spread and scale with Ability Damage
Moth DashShort dash with an attack-speed window; cooldown increased to 8s in October
Soaring StrikeDamage scaling raised from 90% to 220% in the October notes
SpiritbloomInnate; picking up blooms restores energy (raised to 20 per pickup)
Aimed AttackPerk; stretches the basic attack for up to +150% damage at range

Bjornir - ice-armored tank

Bjornir stands in front of the party and takes hits so it does not have to dodge. His kit revolves around chill stacks, taunts and a very large snowball.

Ability or perkWhat it does
Giant SnowballCooldown removed, damage scaling raised - his signature opener
Wild SwingMelee sweep that now scales with max health
Ice BlockHeld defensive stance; damage increased to 300
Empowered TauntPerk; taunting stacks up to 5 times for bonus max health
Chilled / Sturdy / FurySlow on hit, bonus magic resistance, and attack speed that grows as he takes damage

Not in the demo yet

  • Lumiri summons Shooty Flowers that can crit and throws down Bramble Walls that root attackers - a plant-minion controller.
  • Sparkwing plays as an electric skirmisher: Electric Form adds movement speed, Spark Flight can crit, and Empowered Vortex rewards ability play.
  • Thora is the wounded-berserker: Zealous Onslaught converts missing health into armor and recovery, and her Earthquake heals her back up.

How characters grow

Every Vaultbreaker draws power from the same systems: perks and abilities from the Codex, plus Ability Items that grant class, gear and weapon powers. That means the same character can cover different roles depending on what you equip - Bjornir with taunt-support items is a different animal than Bjornir built purely around chill.

Who should you play first?

If you like kiting, positioning and burst windows, start with Nymera. If you would rather be the wall your friends hide behind, Bjornir is the better first pick - and both are fully playable in the demo today.
