Vaultbreakers patch notes, in plain English

Quick answer

The October 2026 patch is the biggest update so far: it shipped with the demo and changed enemies, potions, crafting, progression and social features. Everything older is summarised below.

BetaDwarf documents its updates unusually well, which makes the patch notes the single best source for what is actually in the game. Here is the timeline in plain English, newest first - with links to the official originals.

October 2026 - the demo and Alpha notes

The biggest update so far shipped with the demo. Highlights:

  • New environmental mechanics: electric floors, electrical gates, brittle walls, switch doors and Scrat drawbridges.
  • New enemy types, including the Rusthook pirate crew and a Trained Stoneback Bear.
  • Changelings renamed to the Chosen of Maldrakor and reworked into map-wide hunters.
  • Potions overhauled: instant use, a shared 90-second cooldown, and much stronger shields (600 to 2400 depending on size).
  • Crafting, salvage and repair economies reworked; randomly rolled gear renamed Fateweaver Gear.
  • Breaker difficulty now grants triple gold; XP requirements rebalanced across levels.
  • Social rework: Haven hubs of up to ten players, friend and party invites, blocking, and Discord-based party voice chat.
  • DirectX 11 dropped; performance and stability passes across missions and servers.

July 2026 - the PvE playtest notes

The July test introduced the difficulty split (Adventure and Core available, Breaker shown but locked), added over 50 new items, and reworked health bar colours so hostile players read red. Several abilities landed in their modern form here, including new Nymera and Bjornir perks.

The pattern before that

Through 2025, Vaultbreakers ran weekly content updates between playtests, then moved to a test-and-patch rhythm: December 2025 added trios and drop-in play, February 2026 ran the PvP fest patch, and April 2026 published the difficulty FAQ that still explains the mode design today.

Where to read the originals

Patch notes describe changing systems. Where an old page and a new note disagree, trust the newest note - this page is ordered newest first for that reason.
