Vaultbreakers Guide

How to play Vaultbreakers with friends

Quick answer

Parties hold up to three players, Havens hold up to ten, and everyone needs Core difficulty for the group to loot Supreme and Legendary gear. Voice chat currently runs through Discord.

The Haven social interface in Vaultbreakers showing party options

Vaultbreakers is built to be played with friends - up to three people on a run - and the Havens around it make grouping frictionless. This page collects what is confirmed about parties, invites and the multiplayer rules that actually affect your loot.

Party sizes

  • Demo and current build: up to three players per party (you plus two friends).
  • Haven hubs hold up to ten players at once, even across different parties.
  • Missions support solo play too; parties can also auto-privatize when a mission starts under-filled.

How to team up

Search for other players in your Haven instance, send friend and party invites directly, or join a party leader's Haven from a button if you landed in separate instances. Party leaders can kick members, and blocking works from the social view. During missions, party member names render in blue, so you will always know who is friendly.

The loot rule that decides your difficulty

Everyone in the party needs to be on Core difficulty for the group to loot Supreme and Legendary gear - mixed-difficulty parties work, but the loot table follows the highest tier the whole run qualifies for. Plan your difficulty before you launch, because it is locked during a run.

Social features, in brief

The October update rebuilt the social view around player lists: who is in your Haven, who you recently partied with, who you recently ran missions with, and a blocked list. It also improved Steam friend invitations and added temporary party voice chat through Discord - the practical option for talking mid-run while the in-game alternatives stay limited.

First co-op night checklist

  1. All three players finish the solo demo onboarding first - the tutorial is not multiplayer.
  2. Agree on one difficulty before queueing, preferably Adventure for a first trio.
  3. Decide who carries potions: they share a cooldown, so duplicates waste slots.
  4. Keep audio on to hear the Chosen of Maldrakor before they see you.
  5. Extract early on the first successful run - a clean extraction teaches more than a wipe.
Voice chat currently routes through Discord while in-game options expand. Set it up before the run, not during the first boss.
