Vaultbreakers maps and regions

Quick answer

The demo takes place in part of Wolfswood, the first region. The wider world covers areas like the Refinery, Fume Pits and the Ancient Tower, with Vaults one through four scattered through the journey.

Vaultbreakers takes place in a world of named regions, each with its own vaults, hazards and quest chains. The demo opens the door with part of Wolfswood - the first map - while the Alpha Test and later updates add much more. Here is the confirmed geography so far, and how the map systems work.

Wolfswood: the demo region

Wolfswood is the game's first region and the one the demo covers. It is forest country - pine, palisade walls, bandit camps - and its map screen labels locations like Blood Swamp, Scraplands and Dragonvault alongside the quest and challenge markers. The demo's main quest chain runs here, up to your first Vaultbreak.

The wider world

Beyond Wolfswood, the confirmed names stack up across the world map and patch notes:

RefineryLong-running mission zone; expanded during 2026 tests
ScraplandsWolfswood map screen; industrial frontier
Blood SwampWolfswood map screen
DragonvaultWolfswood map screen; a major Vault
Fume PitsOctober patch notes; poison-gas event test area

How regions work in practice

Missions are journeys into a region, and the map is your planning tool. Extraction portals can now be shown through unexplored parts of the map where appropriate, so leaving is part of route planning rather than a hunt. Balloon Teleporters, added in the Alpha update, connect supported locations as a fast-travel layer on top.

Vaults and Vaultbreaks

Vaults are the region's set-piece dungeons, and four exist so far: Vault 1 and 2 underpin the demo and early tests, while Vault 3 and Vault 4 arrived with the Alpha Test, the fourth carrying the Elemental Artifact. Vault encounters were rebalanced in October for more consistent completion times, and Vaultbreak events anchor the main story beats.

Reading the map like a local

  • Quest and challenge markers share the map screen; primary quests get distinct icons so objectives stand out.
  • The minimap carries landmark names - Sandskulk Pass, Webwhisper Cavern and similar - which makes navigating caves far easier.
  • Repeatable quests use a unique marker so you never confuse them with story beats.
  • Unexplored map areas can still show extraction portals and teleporter icons where it matters.

For who lives in these regions, see the enemies and bosses page; for the schedule that opened them, the patch notes timeline.
