Vaultbreakers Guide

Haven, Codex and Legacy Points

Quick answer

Vaultbreaker levels, Haven upgrades, Codex perks and Challenges all persist between runs, and Legacy Points carry over after the game launches.

The Haven upgrades menu in Vaultbreakers showing tiered unlocks

Vaultbreakers runs on persistent progress that survives even the worst Breaker death: your Vaultbreaker levels up, your Haven grows, your Codex fills in, and your Legacy Points wait for launch day. This page maps what carries between runs and what actually moves the needle first.

What carries over between runs

SystemWhat it does
Vaultbreaker levelCharacter power from XP; requirements were rebalanced in October
HavenYour hub and upgrade tree; buildings add buffs, storage and services
CodexPerks, abilities, cosmetics and Chromas unlocked over time
ChallengesObjectives that target areas, enemy types and ability types
Legacy PointsCross-test currency that also carries past launch

The Haven: your home between runs

Every player gets a Haven instance, and hubs hold up to ten players at once before you even join a party - this is the game's social space as much as its upgrade menu. The Command Table (moved to the top bar in October) spends building materials on upgrades, and single-quest NPCs now open straight into their quest. Upgrades bought early compound: they set the ceiling on what you can craft, store and salvage later.

Codex and Perks

The Codex is your long-term unlock ledger: perks and abilities that change how a Vaultbreaker plays, plus the cosmetic side - Chromas and appearance items. Because demonstrably good perks are gated behind unlocks, reading ahead in the classes page for your character's key perk is one of the best early time investments.

Challenges and Legacy Points

Challenges are structured objectives with real rewards, and the October update broadened them to target specific regions, enemy types and ability styles. Some are tied to Core difficulty progression, and Breaker players get their own dedicated challenge track. Legacy Points come from quests and challenges and are explicitly promised to carry over after launch, unlocking permanent rewards - so even a demo session is an investment.

Materials, crafting and Fateweaver gear

Randomly rolled gear is now called Fateweaver Gear, and it is fed by a full salvage economy: unwanted equipment breaks into materials, recipes drop from enemies and chests, and October added an Epic crafting material tier on top. Keys, quest items and crafting materials are worth checking before you sell anything - the game flags quest and recipe relevance with item markers.

Gear is not the only thing you craft. Building upgrades have recipes too, and locked upgrade recipes can be previewed directly from the Crafting interface.
